Why Organic?

Why choose organic food for your family? Well, it just makes good sense.

Organic farming works in harmony with nature, avoiding harmful chemicals to help maintain a healthy environment rich in wildlife and nutrients.

Studies show that, on average, organic food contains more vitamins and minerals than non-organic food because the plants grow in natural, nutrient-rich soil.

Researchers at the University of Washington found that children fed a diet of organic foods were exposed to far fewer — six to nine times less — toxic pesticides than children fed a conventional diet.

Organic meat and milk have also been shown to have higher levels of essential fatty acids. This is because organic animals eat a natural grass-based diet as opposed to non organic animals that eat processed feeds to help them put on weight.

Organic farmers use natural methods to control pests, weeds and disease. So buying organic is one way to reduce the chances that your food contains pesticides.

Our concern with food, however, is hardly a new thing. In the 5th century BC, Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, is credited with saying “Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food.”
Now that’s food for thought.
